Nine people were injured after a glass bottle was thrown from the VIP section during the Splash House after party at the Palm Springs Air Museum, raising questions about security and how the prohibited item made it into the event.
Seven people were hospitalized following the incident, while two others were treated at the scene. Glass containers are already prohibited at Splash House, but Goldenvoice, the festival's promoter, has not explained how the bottle entered the venue.
The incident happened ahead of the festival's second weekend, which is scheduled to begin Friday. Palm Springs police and festival organizers are discussing whether additional officers and private security should be used during the next weekend.
The Palm Springs Air Museum has said it only rented the property to the event and was not involved in its operations.
The incident was discussed during a recent Roggin Report, where contributors Aaron Aldaricio and Stephanie Minor considered whether the security operation should have prevented the bottle from entering the festival.
Aldaricio, a DJ and promoter who previously performed at Splash House, said security had been strict when he played the event in 2023.
"I know backstage we did have some glass bottles of liquor and wine, but even in the VIP section when I visited that, everything was plastic cups," Aldaricio said.
He added that crowds at the festival appear to have become increasingly rowdy and said Goldenvoice needs to improve security before the next weekend.
Minor said organizers should use the incident as a lesson and make changes before the event resumes.
"They just owe the fact that they're going to do a better job," Minor said. "We're going to learn a lesson and we're going to prevent this for next time."
The discussion also raised questions about whether the city should require specific security changes before allowing the second weekend to proceed. While Aldaricio said additional city oversight could be warranted, Minor said she hopes the promoter and other event organizers will address the issue themselves.
With another weekend of Splash House approaching, organizers are facing pressure to demonstrate that additional safety measures are in place following the injuries.
