Rising Energy Costs Leave More Americans Struggling With Utility Debt
A new analysis by the Century Foundation finds that rising energy costs are putting increased financial pressure on American households. The national average monthly utility bill reached $280 in early 2026, up 12% from the end of 2024, while the average overdue utility balance climbed to $817. Researchers warn that growing electricity demand, including from data centers, could put additional pressure on energy prices and leave consumers struggling to keep up with bills.

New Analysis Finds the American Dream Now Costs $5.3 Million
The cost of achieving the American dream continues to rise, according to a new analysis from financial website Investopedia. The estimated lifetime cost has reached $5.3 million, an increase of more than 4% from last year. The calculation includes eight major milestones, from getting married and buying a home to raising children, paying for college and health care, owning pets, purchasing new cars and taking an annual vacation.

Coachella Valley Changemakers Collective Launches to Support Local Nonprofits
A new initiative led by the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce is bringing together 40 local businesses and organizations to support nonprofits throughout the Coachella Valley. The Coachella Valley Changemakers Collective will focus on strengthening community partnerships through volunteering, financial contributions and shared resources. After attracting twice its original recruitment goal, the Chamber plans to invite more participants to take the Changemakers Pledge beginning November 1.
