The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has introduced a proposal that would allow federally funded homeless shelters to deny transgender women access to women-only facilities. The proposed change to the Equal Access Rule would replace gender identity protections with a strict biological definition of sex, prompting a public comment period that remains open until June 29, 2026.
