Don't worry, Pluto, I still think you matter
Weatherman Jerry Steffen kicked off the segment with a shoutout to a loyal viewer and local business owner before diving into the holidays for Monday, August 24th. Today is National Waffle Day, and also National Waffle Iron Day, marking the 1869 patent of the cast iron stovetop waffle maker. It's also International Strange Music Day, a call to step outside your usual playlist and try something new.
But the real star of today's calendar is Pluto Demoted Day, celebrating the dwarf planet's complicated cosmic history. That theme carried into two out-of-this-world trivia questions on today's Pop Quiz, and NBC Palm Springs isn't giving away the answers. You'll have to watch the segment to find out if you know your space facts.
Question 1) Pluto was demoted from planet to dwarf planet status back in 2006 after it failed to meet one of three official rules for planet status. Which qualifying rule did Pluto fail to meet?
A. It must be large enough to become spherical

C. It must travel around its star and not be a moon orbiting another body

B. The Greek god of the underworld
C. The igneous rock known as pluton
