Nellie Kauffman Students Receive Hands-Only CPR Training

Students at Nellie N. Kauffman Middle School received hands-only CPR training this week as part of Palm Springs Unified School District's ongoing effort to expand lifesaving education across its campuses.

The training was held through PSUSD's "District of Lifesavers" initiative, which aims to equip students, staff and families with the skills needed to respond during cardiac emergencies.

As part of the program, the district received a CPR training kit from the American Heart Association. The kit was funded through the Owen Foundation and will help support future CPR instruction throughout the district.

Representatives from the American Heart Association formally presented the training equipment to PSUSD Director of Risk Management Renee Brunel and members of the district's CPR team during a special ceremony.

District leaders say the partnership is helping bring lifesaving skills to more students while promoting greater awareness about the importance of immediate action during cardiac emergencies. Hands-only CPR focuses on chest compressions and can be performed by bystanders before emergency responders arrive.

According to the American Heart Association, early CPR can significantly improve survival rates for people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

PSUSD officials say providing students with practical, real-world safety skills is an important part of preparing them for success both inside and outside the classroom.

The new training resources will allow the district to continue expanding CPR education opportunities and strengthen its goal of creating a community of trained lifesavers throughout the Coachella Valley.
