Rancho Mirage Student Earns Spot in Prestigious Drum and Bugle Corps, Seeks Community Support

A Rancho Mirage High School junior is celebrating a major achievement after earning a spot in one of the country’s most competitive marching music programs.

Andy Martinez has been selected as lead trumpet for the 2026 Gold Drum and Bugle Corps, a highly competitive drum and bugle corps that tours and competes across the United States.

Martinez, who first began playing music in sixth grade, says his passion for performance grew through years of practicing, studying online performances, and playing music with his family. He also spends time behind a drum set playing along to metal and rock music.

Despite his excitement, Martinez says he was surprised to earn the lead trumpet position, noting he initially believed the role was beyond his skill level.

His parents say they have watched his dedication grow over the years and describe the accomplishment as a major milestone in his musical journey. However, they also say the program comes with significant participation fees that the family is unable to fully cover on their own.

To help support his participation, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign, hoping to raise funds to allow Martinez to take part in the national touring program.

Supporters say the opportunity represents not only a personal achievement for Martinez, but also the realization of a long-held dream to perform at a competitive national level.

The Gold Drum and Bugle Corps is known for its rigorous training schedule, national tours, and competitive performances featuring top student musicians from across the country.
