Road Reopenings and Traffic Delays Expected Across Palm Springs and Cathedral City
Across the Coachella Valley are being advised to plan ahead as road conditions and construction projects continue to affect traffic.
In Palm Springs, city officials confirmed that North Gene Autry Trail and North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash have reopened after temporary closures caused by high winds and low visibility earlier this week.
The closures came after blowing dust created hazardous driving conditions during strong wind events.
Officials say there is still no word on the reopening of North Indian Canyon Drive in other impacted areas, though updates are expected as conditions improve.
Meanwhile, in Cathedral City, drivers should expect delays beginning Tuesday, June 2, as construction work prompts a major traffic change at the intersection of Cathedral Canyon Drive and Perez Road.
The city says the intersection will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic, though one lane on Cathedral Canyon Drive will remain open in both directions. Left turns at the intersection will also be restricted.
City officials expect full travel access to reopen by the end of the day, but intermittent lane closures are expected to continue into the second week of June as crews finish work.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and prepare for delays.
