Decision 2026
Candidates Lay Out Key Issues in California’s 25th Congressional District Race
The race for California’s 25th Congressional District is taking shape as voters prepare for the 2026 election, with candidates outlining their priorities on some of the region’s most pressing issues.
The district includes incumbent Democratic Congressman Raul Ruiz, along with Republican candidates Joe Males, Ceci Andrade-Truman, and Ronald Huffman.
According to campaign discussions, both Democratic and Republican candidates agree that the high cost of living remains one of the most significant challenges facing residents in the district, which includes parts of the Coachella Valley.
Dr. Ruiz, a Coachella Valley native and emergency physician, says addressing affordability includes pushing back on federal tariff policies and working on broader international and economic issues he believes impact prices at home.
Republican candidate Joe Males, a Marine veteran and local official, argues that reducing gas taxes and rolling back regulations would help lower costs for families across California.
Immigration policy has also emerged as a key issue in the race. Ruiz has called for greater accountability and oversight of immigration enforcement, while Males emphasizes stronger border enforcement and adherence to legal immigration processes.
Other Republican candidates in the race have also highlighted priorities including stronger border security and improving the economy, while sharing concerns about affordability and government policy impacts on households.
With multiple candidates entering the contest and key policy differences emerging, the 25th District race is expected to remain closely watched as the election cycle continues.
